They are a neccesary evil that aren't going to improve any time soon.We have all heard about solar power residential and home windwill power and how it can reduce or even eliminate high electric bills, but is it practical for the average family?

You have also probably heard about some do-it-yourself manuals that promise to teach you how to build your own for a fraction of the commercial costs. But do they fulfill their promise?

We decided to find out. We reviewed several of these manuals and posted our results of the ones we consider to be the best.

We discovered that, yes, it's quite possible to build your own solar panels and wind generators. In fact, if you like to build things, it can be a fun project with some nice benefits attached. You can reduce your electric bill, just don't expect enormous savings.

Our reviews are based on the quanity, quality, and understandablity of the information provided. We hope the information provided is enough to help you make an informed decision.

Earth4Energy

Earth4Energy is the most popular DIY book and as it turns out, with good reason.

Earth4Energy promises to show you how to build your own solar panel or wind generator for under $200 and does exactly that. But we found the best part to be the instructional videos. Everything is easier when you actually see someone do it

Energy4Green

Energy4Green is a relative newcomer to the scene and therefore not as popular, but it's climbing fast.

We found that it goes into a lot more detail than some of the other books. However, a lot of this detail might be considered trivial.

DIY Power System

DIY Power System is the ultimate in energy info products. Want to build solar panels? Got it. Wind generator? That, too. Your own batteries? Yep. Biodesiel? They have that covered. Want to build your own house? YOUR OWN HOUSE?

If you are into quanity over quality, DIY Power System is for you. It costs more than the others, but makes up for it with vast amounts of info.
